“Father Jahn” SpokesMannequin® For Gymnastics Museum
PeopleVisionFX™ has created a new Video SpokesMannequin® figure for the American Turners Historical Museum that is under construction on the campus of the International Gymnastics Camp in Stroudsburg, PA. The SpokesMannequin is a historical recreation of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, who has been called father of modern gymnastics. Using the unique PeopleVisionFX process for three-dimensional video projection, the SpokesMannequin captures the voice, likeness, and every expressive nuance of an actor portraying Jahn.
According to PeopleVisionFX president, Wayne Sullivant, the presentation achieves the museum’s most important goal: “The purpose is to tell a compelling story. It’s an origin story of one of the world’s greatest sports, presented in a novel way, that attracts attentive audiences, and creates memorable experiences for them.”
When installed in the new museum, the figure will welcome visitors and introduce them to history of modern gymnastics.
Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, “Father Jahn,” was born in Brandenburg, Prussia, in 1778. During the French occupation, Jahn saw gymnastics as a way to help his countrymen become physically and morally strong. He created much of modern gymnastic apparatus and exercise, including parallel bars, rings, high-bar, balance beam, and vault.
Jahn also created clubs for young gymnasts, who were called “Turners” in German. As the Turner gymnastic clubs gained in popularity, they became a significant social and political force. Often supportive of social change, Turners were at risk of arrest after the failed German revolution of 1848. Many Turners fled to the United States to escape prosecution. Turners formed Gymnastics clubs throughout the US, and also played a significant role in the Union victory during the American Civil War.
